FAMILIAS Friends’ Events 2016 Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse

FAMILIAS Friends’ Events 2016 Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse

This year FAMILIAS is again hosting a series of 4 events across England and Wales, each one providing an introduction to the challenge of responding appropriately to disclosures of domestic abuse.

Statistics compiled by Women’s Aid suggest that 31% women and 18% men have experienced domestic abuse since the age of 16 years. This amounts to 5 million women and 2.9 million men. Since 2008 a Domestic Abuse Working Group at the Bishops’ Conference has been raising awareness about domestic abuse within the Catholic community. FAMILIAS are delighted to welcome from the Working Group, Nikki Dhillon-Keane, a counsellor with extensive experience of working with victims of domestic abuse, who will guide participants through:

  • understanding the prevalence and types of domestic abuse
  • considering appropriate responses when someone shows signs of domestic abuse
  • looking at how we might develop local responses in our own dioceses, parishes, schools, communities, networks and organisations

Entry: £10 for FAMILIAS members, associates and friends; others £20

NB Booking is essential – please contact the local coordinator for each event

All events run from 10.00 for 10.30am until 3.00pm.
