Cardinal Newman students welcome the Icon of Our Lady of Consolation
As part of the Diocesan participation in the Year of Mercy, the icon of Our Lady of Consolation came to the chapel at Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Hove in January. This gave the students the opportunity to visit for a time of quiet prayer and reflection. The icon is from the Church at West Grinstead which has been a long established site of pilgrimage in this area for hundreds of years.
Roger Galvin, Assistant Headteacher and Subject Leader for RE said “The Pope has declared this year a year where we should be looking and thinking about mercy; mercy in our lives and in our relationships and mercy in the world. This was a timely reminder that mercy/Caritas should be at the heart of all of our actions and orientations. Mary was and is a symbol of our human response to God so it is fitting that she is a useful 'window' through which our students can think about their relationship with God and how they can respond to the call of Christ in their lives”.
