Fully-funded NPQs to candidates working in a school in an Opportunity Area
£10million has been set aside to support teachers and leaders in challenging areas to access the reformed National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) for school leaders.
Outstanding Leaders Partnership (with Best Practice Network) can offer fully-funded NPQs (subject to DfE funding limits) to candidates working in a school in an Opportunity Area (OA) or a Category 5 or 6 area. The designated areas within the diocese are as follows:
- Hastings -opportunity area
- Crawley – category 6
- Worthing – category 6
- Arun category 5
- Lewes – category 5
[Opportunity Areas are areas of the country identified as having the greatest need and the lowest rates of social mobility in England.
In addition to the designated opportunity areas, the Department for Education evaluated each Local Authority District and grouped them into six categories numbered 1 to 6.
Areas rated 5 and 6 are those where children were making the least progress and had the poorest access to high-quality schools.]
The government has confirmed that funding will be released for participants who:
- are working in a school in an Opportunity Area (OA) or a Category 5 or 6 area
- do not already hold the NPQ for which they are applying
- have not previously dropped out of the NPQ for which they are applying
Further criteria will be considered if the scheme is oversubscribed, but the funding will be payable in each of the financial years 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020.
