Briefing Note for Secondary Heads of RE
Briefing Note from Peter Ward to Secondary Heads of Religious Education
8 February 2017
For your information, Sheila Butler has replaced Mike Charman as ‘responsible officer.’
AQA Q1 will be either
[a] meaning of ‘key word’ – there will be 10 per unit OR
[b] simple fact – always ‘very simple’
Alternative ‘distractor’ answers will be clearer and make choice more obvious than in the SAM.
AQA Q2 will be simple Knowledge recall for two marks
AQA have produced a second SAM but written by first writer so not very different. There is nothing to be gained by seeing them. There will be no more SAMs.
The extensive Glossary of words is purely for teacher information; it is NOT to be confused with forthcoming list of ‘key words’.
Route B, the Catholic paper, has a Catholic as principal examiner.
Thomas Harding is the new contact person, after some staff changes.
AQA Redemptorist book 2 should be available shortly.
Eduqas Redemptorist book may be ready by end of February or soon after.
Hodder are planning a revision book for Catholic GCSE RS AQA and Eduqas.

Birmingham is also hosting an event on GCE AL Religious Studies on 28 March 2017 and I plan to attend it. The intention is that the presentations will be posted on the website to complement the GCSE presentations.
