Celebrating the Year of Mercy at St Paul's, Thames Dittton
A central feature of any jubilee year is 'the holy door', which traditionally meant a special entrance to the four major basilicas in Rome. Now, for this Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has asked for such holy doors to be opened in every diocese (with four of them here in A&B alone). But the point is that every doorway should be a door of mercy, a place of welcome and acceptance. Children at St Paul's school in Thames Ditton now have a beautiful reminder of this truth right by the visitors' entrance to the school alongside the door to the school hall. This design by one of the teachers, Mrs Aird, serves to remind everyone going into assembly, school lunch or PE that, as Pope Francis keeps retelling us, "mercy is the name of our God."
