This Handbook helps to explain clerking in a Catholic School context, in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Whilst many of the duties of the Clerk to Governors are the same as any other school, there are some significant differences and extra responsibilities. This booklet has been produced to outline these procedures.
This Handbook (latest version produced in 2017) is for governors, headteachers and governing body clerks. It provides three levels of progressively more detailed information:
- Section 1 outlines the core role and functions of school governing bodies;
- Sections 2 to 8 summarise all of the specific legal duties on governing bodies –providing a first point of reference for those with a specific area of interest; and
- Further reading signposted from within each section provides more detailed information on the legal duties of governing bodies and any supporting guidance or resources.
