Our Lady's Operation Christmas Child Appeal
On 2 November, the children at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Primary School in Crawley held a non-uniform day in exchange for bringing in items to go in shoeboxes for the Operation Christmas Child appeal. The appeal is run by the charity the Samaritans, who distribute the shoeboxes to children all around the world who, would otherwise, not receive a present at Christmas.
The appeal was a huge success, with over 76 shoeboxes filled by donations from the families and staff at Our Lady Queen of Heaven.
Teacher and Geography coordinator, Sarah Ward, helped to organise the shoebox appeal in school as it is a charity her family has supported over the years: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the families at Our Lady Queen of Heaven. Many children brought in multiple items to donate into the class shoeboxes. With this many shoeboxes donated, it means lots of under privileged children will have something to open on Christmas Day this year. I cannot thank the families at our school enough for their generosity. The shoeboxes have now been delivered to the collection point at Crawley Baptist Church in West Green.”
The school will be tracking which country or countries the boxes are sent to so they can inform the children in the new year.
