Celebrations for the Feast of St Cuthbert Mayne
On Wednesday 29 November 2017, St Cuthbert Mayne Catholic Primary School in Cranleigh celebrated the Feast Day of St Cuthbert Mayne. They were delighted that many parents, carers and governors could join them and that Bishop Richard was able to preside at the Mass. It was a truly wonderful celebration. The school would like to thank Father David for all he did to make the Mass a very special occasion and also for inviting the school to use the church. Not all schools are blessed by such close proximity to their parish church.
Well done to Year Five on their fantastic acting and reading. They told the story of St Cuthbert Mayne in a clear and compelling way. All the children sang beautifully and played an active part in the Mass.
During the Mass, Bishop Richard reminded those present what an excellent example of faithfulness St Cuthbert Mayne was. Following this example the Bishop advised was to have ‘stickability’ and to stick to God. This may sometimes prove difficult but we must always remember the role model of St Cuthbert Mayne.
After Mass, all processed into the school driveway where Bishop Richard blessed the school (and those present) with quite a lot of holy water! After this he cut through the special paper chain which had been created by Year 6 and announced that the new school entrance was officially open.
After this the whole school entered the building through the entrance.
The school was delighted that Bishop Richard was able to stay on and tour classes to meet children, parents and staff at the Open Classroom work share.
After this, Bishop Richard and Father David joined staff and governors for tea.
